The Queen crest

I´m a huge Queen fan so I decided to make a hoodie with the Queen crest on the back. The hoodie itself I made from black college fabric, which I got from my (now former!) school a year and half ago for free! This time I got inspired to paint the Queen crest by new textile paints I bought on Saturday the 11th of June (an opaque white, yellow and red). Why did they give me then inspiration then? They are the main colours on the coloured version of the Queen crest, and I was wearing a T-shirt with the image in question. I bought it from the Queen + Adam Lambert 2016 summer festival tour, Helsinki, on June the 3rd. I was there with a good friend of mine and we happened to get in the actual front!! I was totally excited about going to the gig in general as I thought it would never be possible for me to see Queen live, so I was officially the happiest person on Earht for getting so close to the stage!! Here´s a shot from the Helsinki gig.

Absolutely an incredible show! Thanks for giving world all that wonderful music! QUEEN (still) ROCKS!!

Back to the hoodie.. So I have made another hoodie with Queen crest on the back but it was painted with brown on black fabric so it isn´t too visible (as the brown was all I got at the moment, and of course I couldn´t go and buy some new paints..).

And, in my opinion, the Crest is very nice looking, too!

On top: The newest Queen crest hoodie
In the middle: My first fabric painting,
 the Finnish lion
On the bottom: The first hoodie with
the Queen crest, it´s little better visible than it
seems on the computer screen.
I indeed DO NOT OWN screen printing supplies so I create my own "wannabe screen prints" with sticky-backed plastic combined with free-hand painting/-drawing. I first draw through the image on the plastic sheet and then stick on it´s place on the fabric. Then I cut out the areas to be painted with utility knife and tiny little scissors. After that I (try to) paint the colours accordingly and remove the plastic. Once it`s dry, I draw the possible black elements with a black textile marker and let it dry well again. When the image is fully dry I iron over it on full heat for 5 to 10 minutes. The ironing makes it waterproof and it lasts forever on the fabric. This poor mans method takes time and effort, but if you are patient and concentrated, your hard work WILL be rewarded.

This was my third time making a "wannabe screen print" and actually was mostly painted free-hand, excluding the outlines. Took several hours and was scary, but I´m happy with how it turned out. Might have been better, but for me it´s good enough. After all, it was made by a human with not-the-best supplies, so I´m happy.

...Still missing a zipper, though, so I´ll have to wait a little more to wear it...

Cheers!
